Climate Change.

In reading this term our focus has been looking at articles around Climate Change and discovering new words.

Some new words I learned are:

  • Greenhouse gas
  • Fossil fuel
  • Global warming
  • Conservation
  • Deforestation
  • Methane

Here is a Climate Change Poster that I would like to a strike.

Do you want to stop Climate Change?

Games for kind kids

PBL - Term 1

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about kindness and the big question was: How can we build community through our actions?

First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include kindness and build a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were organised into groups where we had to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community and kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was free and would make others happy.

We created an action plan and  after taking with each other we decided to run games for the Paiaka students.I came up with the idea of giving out tokens as an entry to the game.

Reflection:
For our final product our group decided to do three game's with the younger students.

I contributed by I printed out the certificates designed and cut out tokens and ran a rippa rugby game

I think it  might impact on others by making them happy.

What I learned about working with others was that it was fun and wasn't always easy.

Selling Stress Balls!

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for.

S for Science

T for Technology

E for Engineering

A for the Arts

and M for Maths

Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.

Then; make a table that was able to balance MnMs for the team. We were much better at the second challenge because my team worked better and our chair didn’t even stand up!

In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.

How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

My team made stress balls

Reflection

My highlight from this PBL was selling my product at the stall.

Next time I would make more stress balls because we sold out. I would also like to make different things to sell

PBL Term 3

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;
What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. Culture is about the things like what country you are from, your food, family, and celebrations.
Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage. I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.
In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on Maori legends. I read Maui and the Sun, Battle of the Mountains, Maui and the giant fish.

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

Reflection:
For our production I contributed by helping  with the  music.

I think people would enjoy the show because we have funny actors.

What I learned about working with others was that sometimes its hard.

The Duel.

Last week I read a story about an old hipster grandad who invented lots of stuff, he came across this other guy who invented stuff. They had a battle.  The old man hipster got hung upside down.

we had to then create three statements like the arguments that the two guys had!

1.my brother invited rugby and i invented hockey.

2.my brother invented water so i invented taps

3.my brother invented wood so i invented homes.

If you want to start you can get a cheap skateboard  from kmart
It does not have to be a fancy one because do
If you don't like it wood

If more people
Skateboard it  can save the environment. No fumes or smoke = a good environment
You can either longboard and penny board whichever type of skateboard you want. It is easy to store and carry to.
I prefer the longboard because its much smoother and easier to ride.

One time I crashed my head after I hit a rock on a longboard
It heit so much We all make mistakes.

My favorite skateboarder is chris chann. chris chann is one of the best skateboarder is the world.
